PLA is Poly-Lactic-Acid, a biodegradable polymer that has a lower melting point. PLA is kinder to the environment that other plastics as it is derived from corn starch and not fossil fuels. It is also biodegrade in an active compost heap. It is an amazing material to print with, and you can print at very high speeds when using this material. After 3D printing you can finish your model by sanding and spraying with automotive spray filler. You can also paint directly onto PLA with acrylic paints.
ABS plastic is more durable and stronger than PLA plastic, but it smells more when extruding. Open a window or have some fume extraction when printing.
Set the heater temperatur to 225-250degree celcius. For best result and eliminate warping use a heated bed.
What is ABS Thermoplastic Material?
ABS, a copolymer, is comprised of polymerized styrene and acrylonitrile with polybutadiene. Based on application, proportions can range from 15% to 35% acrylonitrile, 5% to 30% butadiene and 40% to 60% styrene.
ABS Thermoplastic Properties
ABS exhibits excellent mechanical, thermal, electrical, and pysiological characteristics. Considered stronger than pure polystyrene, ABS obtains it's strength from the polarization between the chains which attracts and binds them together. Acrylonitrile provides the materials tensile strength, styrene provides tensile strength as well as shiny, impervious surface quality, and polybutadiene provides the material its tenacity and impact strength even at low temperatures. ABS maintains high performance properties between -25°C and +60°C. The flowability of ABS make this thermoplastic material suitable for easy plastic injection molding and manufacturing.
